7.61km Extension and Four-Lane Road Planned on Right Bank of Yudeungcheon... 110.9 Billion Won Secured in National Funding
The city of Daejeon announced that the 'Sajeonggyo~Hanbatgyo Road Construction Project,' a pledge project of the 8th popularly elected administration, passed the preliminary feasibility study review at the 7th Fiscal Project Evaluation Committee of the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the 31st.
The Sajeonggyo~Hanbatgyo Road Construction Project was included in the 4th Metropolitan Area Traffic Congestion Road Improvement Plan by the Metropolitan Area Transportation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in July 2021. The project aims to open a 7.61 km, four-lane road along the right bank of Yudeungcheon, targeting completion by 2031. The total project cost is 258.6 billion won (with 110.9 billion won from the national budget).
When the preliminary feasibility study was applied for in May last year, the total project cost was 166.3 billion won (with 68.8 billion won from the national budget). However, during the one-year review process by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Korea Development Institute (KDI), the final review approved an increase to 258.6 billion won, an increase of 92.3 billion won. Of this, the national budget portion increased by 42.1 billion won.
The city of Daejeon expects to alleviate severe urban traffic congestion on Yudeung-ro (left bank of Yudeungcheon), which currently sees about 70,000 vehicles per day, by connecting the 'Jeongrimjung~Sajeonggyo Road Construction Project,' currently under construction with an investment of 101.7 billion won, to the 'Sajeonggyo~Hanbatgyo' section.
Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, said, "Although the Sajeonggyo~Hanbatgyo Road Construction Project was rejected in the preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Economy and Finance in 2006, we have been steadily preparing for the past 18 years to make this project a reality. With the completion of the ring road connecting the center of Daejeon, we will alleviate internal traffic congestion and achieve balanced regional development."
