The prosecution investigating allegations related to former President Moon Jae-in's wife, Kim Jung-sook's overseas trips, has secured the Chanel jacket she wore during her 2018 trip to France.
According to the legal community on the 31st, the Criminal Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Jo Ara) recently received the jacket Kim wore from the Chanel headquarters in France through a voluntary submission and requested an appraisal from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Digital Forensic Center. The prosecution plans to verify the circumstances under which the jacket was returned, and whether the jacket donated to the National Hangeul Museum is a different product from the one Kim wore.
During her trip to France in October 2018, Kim wore a Chanel jacket inspired by Hangeul. Later, this jacket was displayed at an exhibition held at the departure hall of Incheon International Airport in 2022, organized by the National Hangeul Museum. However, there were online claims that the jacket exhibited was different from the one Kim actually wore.
At the time, the Blue House explained, "The jacket was returned, and Chanel donated it to the National Hangeul Museum for exhibition." Chanel stated that they produced and donated a separate jacket at the request of the National Hangeul Museum.
The prosecution is also known to have summoned Yang Mo, a former administrative staff member responsible for Kim's wardrobe and protocol, last week as a witness.
Kim was reported in January for allegations of not returning the Chanel jacket. The prosecution has summoned Kim Il-hwan, director of the National Hangeul Museum, and Jeon Hae-woong, former director of the Korean Cultural Center in France, for questioning.
