Jinju City Expands Support for Infertility Treatment Sessions to Overcome Low Birthrate

Expanded from '25 times per couple' to '25 times per birth'

Jinju City in Gyeongnam Province will expand support for infertility treatment from ‘25 times per infertile couple’ to ‘25 times per childbirth per infertile couple’ starting this November, as part of efforts to overcome low birth rates.

With this expansion, couples who wish to conceive again after giving birth will be granted a new opportunity for 25 infertility treatment sessions.

Additionally, government support for ‘infertile couple treatment expenses’ previously differentiated the upper limit of treatment cost support based on age around 45, but from November, the age distinction will be abolished, allowing all ages to receive the same government subsidy.

Besides the government’s support for infertile couple treatment expenses, the city has been pioneering nationwide since April 24, 2023, the ‘full support for out-of-pocket infertility treatment expenses’ by covering the entire out-of-pocket cost (covered items) exceeding the government subsidy without income or age restrictions, and also providing partial additional support for non-covered items, thereby helping reduce the burden on infertile couples.

Eligibility for application is open to any couple who both reside in Jinju City and are recipients of government infertility treatment expense support. Applicants can apply online through the public health center website or visit the Maternal and Child Health Team at the public health center with the couple’s ID cards and resident registration certificates.

A city official stated, “Through this expanded support, we hope to encourage and support couples wishing to conceive so they do not give up on childbirth, and we expect it will greatly help address the worsening low birth rate issue.”
