Professional basketball player Heo Ung (31), who was investigated on charges of sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend but was cleared by the police, has filed a complaint against the ex-girlfriend's lawyer for instigating false accusations.
On the 30th, Bu Ji-seok, a lawyer from the law firm 'Buyu' representing Heo Ung, stated, "We have submitted a complaint to the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul against lawyer B, who represented A, Heo Ung's ex-girlfriend, on charges of instigating false accusations and defamation." Earlier, Heo Ung's side had also filed a complaint against A on August 20 for false accusations.
Heo Ung's side alleges that lawyer B pressured Heo Ung after accusing him of quasi-rape causing injury, received a settlement, and intended to sway public opinion favorably regarding the related case.
Previously, Heo Ung and A met through an introduction by an acquaintance in December 2018 and dated for about three years. On June 26, Heo Ung's side filed a complaint against A at the Gangnam Police Station for attempted extortion, threats, and violation of the Stalking Punishment Act. The police forwarded A to the prosecution last month on charges of extortion and attempted extortion. A also filed a counter-complaint claiming sexual assault by Heo Ung, but the police decided last month not to prosecute Heo Ung on the quasi-rape causing injury charge.
