On the 30th (local time), Mariya Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced in Moscow that Choe Son-hui, North Korea's Foreign Minister, is holding strategic consultations with Sergey Lavrov, Russia's Foreign Minister.
According to TASS and other sources, Zakharova stated at a briefing that Choe is on an official visit to Russia, and specific details about the talks will be provided later.
She explained that in June, Choe visited Russia to hold strategic consultations with Minister Lavrov in accordance with the agreement reached at the North Korea-Russia summit. Choe, who departed from Pyongyang on the 28th, stayed in Vladivostok the previous day before moving to Moscow.
Choe is expected to coordinate diplomatic responses related to the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia and discuss topics such as Kim Jong-un's visit to Russia and the upcoming U.S. presidential election next month. There are also prospects that expanding the scale of North Korean troop deployment will be on the agenda.
