Genesis Championship Locker Room Door Damage
Disciplinary Committee Meeting to Be Held at KPGA Building on the 6th of Next Month
The Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) will hold a disciplinary committee meeting regarding Kim Joo-hyung, who damaged a locker room.
On the 30th, KPGA announced, "After the secretariat and the disciplinary committee investigated the circumstances, it was decided to hold a disciplinary committee meeting to provide Kim Joo-hyung with sufficient opportunity to explain." The meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. on the 6th of next month at the KPGA building, and Kim Joo-hyung has been notified to attend. KPGA explained, "If Kim Joo-hyung is unable to attend, he may submit a written statement containing his explanation. If he fails to appear and does not provide sufficient explanation, it may be considered that he has waived his right to testify and defend himself."
KPGA stated, "We are relieved that Kim Joo-hyung has offered explanations and apologies regarding this incident through social media channels and broadcaster interviews," but added, "KPGA has not officially settled or concluded the matter with anyone involved, nor agreed not to raise the issue. It will be handled according to the association's internal regulations and principles."
On the 27th, at the Jack Nicklaus Korea Golf Club in Songdo, Incheon, Kim Joo-hyung finished as runner-up after a playoff against An Byeong-hoon in the Genesis Championship, a joint event co-hosted by the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) and the KPGA Tour. Afterward, he damaged the locker room door. On the 28th, Kim Joo-hyung bowed his head and said, "It is true that I was frustrated after the playoff loss, but I never intentionally damaged the locker room. I sincerely apologize to those I disappointed."
