Korea Rail Network Authority Wins Preliminary Feasibility Study for Tajikistan's Aging Railway Electrification and Signal Modernization

The Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 30th that it has signed a contract for the 2024/25 Economic Innovation Partnership Program (EIPP) service for the "Preliminary Feasibility Study on the Electrification and Signal Modernization of Aging Railways in Tajikistan," which is led by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and implemented by the Export-Import Bank of Korea.

EIPP is a government-to-government mid- to long-term policy and technical advisory program promoted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance since 2020 to expand opportunities for Korean companies to participate in overseas projects.

This project involves a preliminary feasibility study for the electrification and signal modernization of the 92.4 km single-track non-electrified section on the central Tajikistan route (Parkdabad~Dushanbe~Vahdat). The Korea Rail Network Authority is collaborating with Daehan Consultant, Sejong Technology, and ARTEC. The Authority expects that the Tajikistan railway market, which aims to modernize its aging railways, will serve as a foothold for the entry of Korean railway system technology into Central Asia.

The Korea Rail Network Authority signed a railway cooperation memorandum of understanding with the Tajikistan Ministry of Transport in March 2022. Subsequently, it successfully completed the 2023/24 KSP policy advisory service for the "Preliminary Study for the Construction and Operation of Urban Railways in Tajikistan" in June, providing advisory services from the conceptual stage of Tajikistan’s railway project development.

Additionally, the Authority is diligently carrying out the "Preliminary Feasibility Study for the Construction of Dushanbe Urban Railway," which it leads, and is actively striving to participate in Tajikistan’s railway construction.

Lee Seong-hae, Chairman of the Korea Rail Network Authority, stated, "Winning this project will be an opportunity for Korea’s excellent railway system technology to enter not only Tajikistan but also the Central Asian railway market. We will continue to actively support the export of Korea’s outstanding railway technology to the world through win-win cooperation with private companies."
