Sowon Rock 'Sotbawi' Attraction
2.7 Million Won Donated by Tourists
The Uiryeong Rich Rich Festival properly conveyed the meaning of ‘a true rich person is one who shares wealth.’
On the 30th, Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, announced that it had donated the 21.21 million won collected at the ‘3rd Rich Rich Festival’ to the Gyeongsangnam-do Community Chest of Korea, Goodwill Store, and Uiryeong-gun Scholarship Foundation.
This year’s Uiryeong Rich Rich Festival aimed to be a festival of ‘good hearts’ practicing sharing, spreading the energy of luck, happiness, and wealth. Known as a ‘kind festival’ that teaches the way to become a ‘real rich person’ in mental, material, and social aspects, 240,000 visitors?ten times the population of Uiryeong-gun?came to Uiryeong.
During the Rich Rich Festival, Uiryeong-gun passed on the ‘First Rule of the Rich’ of sharing and giving, and held a ‘Sharing Market’ and ‘Sharing Auction’ selling donated items to promote the culture of sharing.
The proceeds from the Sharing Market (2,042,000 won), held in cooperation with the Milal Welfare Foundation, a vocational rehabilitation facility for the disabled, were donated to the Goodwill Store. The auction proceeds (1,644,000 won) from cherished items offered by Mayor Oh Tae-wan and Ambassador Bae Ah-hyun were delivered to the Gyeongsangnam-do Community Chest of Korea.
The Festival Promotion Committee and food zone participating companies also joined the donations. The committee held a Golden Beer event and entrusted the proceeds (2,014,330 won) to the Uiryeong-gun Scholarship Foundation, and 13 food zone vendors at the festival collected 2.8 million won together and donated it to the same foundation for local students.
Donations for hometown love also continued. The Alumni Association of Moi Elementary School donated 5 million won, Namgang Leisure donated 3 million won, and Jo In-gyun, CEO of the Unam Food Truck Cooperative ‘Geu Yangban Ne,’ donated 2 million won.
Lee Hwan-seong, a businessman from Uiryeong and chairman of Ceragem, donated three massage chairs worth 15 million won to the Comprehensive Social Welfare Center for seniors with declining physical functions.
Meanwhile, as in last year, the money placed by tourists on Sotbawi Rock (2,709,850 won) was donated to the Community Chest of Korea. As Sotbawi Rock gained fame as a wish rock, the number of visitors increased compared to last year, and the amount of money placed increased by nearly 1 million won.
Mayor Oh Tae-wan said, “The Rich Rich Festival hopes that the spirit of true wealth through love will widely spread throughout our society. All donors deserve to be praised as sharing-rich and love-rich people. I extend my gratitude and respect.”
