Malaysia Ministry of International Trade and Industry Collaborates with Local Korean Chamber of Commerce for Agricultural Corporation Export Sales and Partners with Selangor State Assembly
The Jinju City Council in Gyeongnam accelerated practical overseas official training by learning advanced overseas cases at Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), the Malaysia-Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Selangor State Assembly during their official overseas training. They also pledged mutual international exchange between local councils while working to open Malaysian market channels for Jinju-based companies and agricultural corporations.
On the morning of the 28th, the City Council visited Kuala Lumpur City Hall and explored urban planning and ways to revitalize tourist attractions such as historical sites. In the afternoon, they met with Deputy Minister Liu Jin Tong of Malaysia's MITI to discuss cooperation plans for exporting Jinju's agricultural and marine food products to Malaysia.
Attending the meeting were Parana Kamarudin, Deputy Director in charge of East Asia at the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Hong Jaishin, Manager, and Badrul Hisamhilal, Halal Food Manager, along with Jang Jeongho, Head of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) branch.
The City Council introduced Deputy Minister Liu Jin Tong to Jinju’s pride, the K-Entrepreneurship International Forum and the Namgang Lantern Festival. The Deputy Minister expressed interest in future international events in Jinju and discussed ongoing exchanges and cooperation with the city.
At a subsequent meeting with MATRADE, the council members directly introduced local bio companies such as KB Cosmetic, Jangsaeng Doraji, the export integrated organization K-Berry, and the agricultural corporation Korea Pear Farming Association. They also sought local advice on excellent products suitable for entering the Malaysian market and discussed other cooperation measures, including establishing channels for export market development. MATRADE trade officials responded by promising to attend upcoming official Jinju events, such as the 2024 Jinju International Agro-Food Expo scheduled for next month.
The following day, they met with No Jae-yeol, President of the Malaysia-Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a native of Jinju, to discuss the status of the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and detailed plans for Jinju companies’ market entry.
As on the previous day, the council members introduced local products, and Jang Jeongho, the aT branch head who accompanied them for two days as a member of the Malaysia-Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, pledged cooperation for exporting Jinju strawberries and halal-certified pear juice to Malaysia.
On the 29th, the Jinju City Council toured the plenary chamber specially opened at the Selangor State Assembly and listened to a presentation directly conducted by Speaker Lau Weng San. A Q&A session was held on best practices such as the local youth council program, and Jinju council members, including Chairman Baek Seungheung, shared regional content like K-Entrepreneurship, receiving positive responses.
After leaving Malaysia, the Jinju City Council will benchmark urban development and regeneration policies, garden and tourism revitalization policies, and more in Singapore from the 30th to November 1st.

All council members who met with MITI, MATRADE, and the Malaysia-Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry will closely discuss with the executive branch after returning home to ensure that efforts to open export channels for Jinju companies bear fruit.”
