Presidents of 50 Universities from 14 Asian Countries Discuss Establishment of Asian Alliance University (AAU)
2024 AUPF (Asia University Presidents Forum) to be Held from October 30 to November 1
Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) announced that the 2024 Asian University Presidents Forum (AUPF), hosted in Busan, will be held from the 30th to the 1st of next month.
The event, held at Dongseo University's Jurye Main Campus, Haeundae Centum Campus, and the Westin Chosun Hotel, will be attended by presidents from 50 universities across 14 countries in the Asian region.
This year's AUPF, themed "Strategic Alliance Among Asian Universities in Higher Education," aims to build a close network among Asian universities and discuss joint measures to respond to the Asian era.
President Jang Je-guk of Dongseo University stated, "By establishing a new university platform through the alliance of Asian universities, we will greatly enhance Dongseo University's global status and activate exchanges between Dongseo University and Asian universities."
The 2024 Asian University Presidents Forum was decided to be held at Dongseo University during the 21st annual meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2023. It was announced that this decision was made to revitalize practical exchange and cooperation among Asian universities, which had been subdued due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Participating universities include Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in China, Asia Pacific University in Malaysia, Bangkok University in Thailand, BHELLORE Institute of Technology in India, member universities of the Indonesian Private Universities Association, and about 50 other universities.
On the 30th, a networking reception will be held at the Westin Chosun Hotel. On the second day, the 31st, the opening ceremony will begin at the Sohyang Art Hall on Dongseo University's Jurye Main Campus, followed by discussion sessions in the afternoon. On the final day, the 1st, participants will move to Dongseo University's Haeundae Centum Campus to sign academic exchange agreements with Asian universities.
At the closing ceremony at 11 a.m., the Busan Declaration regarding the establishment of the Asian Alliance University (AAU) for cooperation in Asian higher education will also be made.
Dongseo University already held the Asia Summer Program, a program under the Asian University Presidents Forum, in August 2024, and following this year's AUPF, plans to host another affiliated program, the Asia Faculty Workshop, in 2025.
The Asian University Presidents Forum began with its first forum in Thailand in 2002 and is held annually at designated host universities. Currently, 61 universities in the Asian region are members, and efforts are underway to expand participation to universities and presidents across Asia.
