'Best Excellence' Award in the 'Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project' Contest
National funding of 1.02 billion KRW will be provided for the solar power generation facilities being established in the Songsan-myeon area of Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do.
Hwaseong City announced on the 30th that it secured this amount of national funding by receiving the highest grade (A) in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s '2025 New Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project' competition.

The New Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project installs new renewable energy sources such as solar power, solar heat, and geothermal energy in houses, public buildings, and other structures to reduce fuel costs and decrease carbon emissions.
The city plans to invest a total of 3 billion KRW, including the 1.02 billion KRW of national funding secured through this competition, to equip the Songsan-myeon area with solar power and geothermal power generation facilities. The installed power generation capacity will be 821 kW for solar power and 612.5 kW for geothermal energy. Solar thermal collectors will be installed covering an area of 220㎡.
Through this, the city expects to produce 1,775 MWh of new renewable energy annually, which can replace 340.84 toe (tons of oil equivalent) of fossil energy.
Since starting the competition project in 2021, the city has actively promoted energy self-sufficiency by increasing the supply of new renewable energy sources every year, installing them in a total of 453 locations up to this year.
The city explained that it was highly evaluated for preparing a differentiated plan, such as providing additional support to consortia including multi-child and pregnant households during the recruitment process of consortium participants composed of new renewable energy equipment installation companies and private (demand) sectors for the New Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project in this competition.
Jung Myung-geun, mayor of Hwaseong City, said, "We will expand the distributed power system and lay the foundation for carbon neutrality by supplying new renewable energy sources to the Songsan-myeon area, which includes industrial complexes."
