On the 29th, the 'Discussion Forum for the Promotion of the Establishment of Songdo Special Autonomous District,' hosted by Jeong Il-young, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Yeonsu-eul, Incheon, was held at Songdo Convensia in Incheon.
This forum, the second following the first held last month at the National Assembly, was attended by residents of Songdo International City who shared their opinions and sought practical promotion measures.
Professor Lee Jun-han of Incheon National University, who delivered the presentation, analyzed and presented the necessity, economic outlook, and expected effects of the Songdo Special Autonomous District. Park Han-jun, Secretary General of the Songdo International City Development Council; Kwon Young-min, Head of the Incheon City Budget Monitoring Team; and Cho Min-kyung, former Yeonsu District Council member, engaged in discussions on future policy tasks.

The Songdo Special Autonomous District initiative began in June when Representative Jeong introduced the 'Songdo Special Autonomous District Establishment Act' as the first bill of the 22nd National Assembly. The bill includes provisions to separate Songdo from Yeonsu District and establish the legal basis for creating a special autonomous district.
If the law passes, it is expected to unify the authorities currently divided among three institutions?incheon City, Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, and Yeonsu District?into one, thereby meeting administrative demands caused by population growth and accelerating development projects.
Representative Jeong stated, "Songdo International City continues to see population growth and has been designated as a bio-cluster and advanced medical complex, possessing unlimited growth potential. However, development has been delayed due to an inefficient administrative system. To resolve this, I introduced the Songdo Special Autonomous District Establishment Act as the lead bill in June."
He added, "Following a public opinion survey showing that about 76% of residents support the establishment of the Songdo Special Autonomous District, we organized this forum to explore more practical promotion measures and listen to residents' opinions. Moving forward, we will continue discussions and consultations with residents, central government departments, and experts to ensure the passage of the Songdo Special Autonomous District Establishment Act in the National Assembly."
