Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Lifelong Learning City Designation

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam will hold the ‘2024 Changwon Lifelong Learning & Science Festival’ at the Changwon Convention Center from November 2 to 3.

The ‘Changwon Lifelong Learning & Science Festival’ has been held biennially since 2005 and has been loved by many citizens.

This year, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of being designated a lifelong learning city, the festival will be held under the theme ‘Changwon Grand Operation, JUMP UP 20!’ It is expected to be an opportunity to look back on the past 20 years and present Changwon’s vision as a future learning and science city.

◆ Changwon’s Representative Education and Science Festival

The festival will feature 92 lifelong learning-related organizations and 24 science institutions operating promotional experience centers, offering citizens a variety of exhibitions and hands-on programs.

In the lifelong learning sector, local universities, community centers, and lifelong learning centers will participate, while in the science sector, institutions such as the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute, Korea Institute of Materials Science, and Korea Automotive Technology Institute will join, providing an opportunity to richly experience the community’s learning and science culture.

◆ Side Events Enjoyed by All Ages

Programs for children include △ KidZania job experience △ Science playground △ Special lecture by popular science YouTuber Geekble (Sudragon) △ Dr. Kim’s science experiment show △ Children’s science forum.

For adults, programs such as △ Neuroscientist Jang Dong-seon’s special lecture △ Learning club contest will be available. Additionally, events like △ Rising Star △ Family science competition will be held, allowing citizens to participate directly.

The opening ceremony celebrating the 20th anniversary of the lifelong learning city designation will feature ‘Changwon Runway,’ with 300 citizens of various professions and age groups participating together.

Alongside this, a magic show by Eden and Steve, performers from SBS’s ‘The Magic Star,’ will captivate the audience.

◆ Pre-Programs Across Changwon

On November 1, a day before the festival opens, a pre-program titled ‘Science Exploration with the Korea Federation of Science and Technology Societies Gyeongnam Regional Association’ will be held.

Also, six university lifelong education centers and the Jinhae-gu lifelong education center will offer various one-day classes on topics such as △ Easy kimchi making for everyone △ DIY using recycled wood.

Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, “I believe this lifelong learning & science festival will be filled with more substantial programs than ever before. Based on the achievements made with citizens over the past 20 years, we will implement policies that provide practical help to citizens’ lives.”
