1292㎡ Giant Screen... Lighting Up on the 1st of Next Month
Theme: 'In Search of Christmas Moments'
Shinsegae Department Store announced on the 30th that it will showcase a media facade on the exterior of its Myeongdong main store under the theme "Finding the Moments of Christmas."
For the first time, it will unveil the "Shinsegae Square," a massive digital signage (a display installed in public or commercial spaces) measuring 1,292.3㎡, equivalent to the size of three basketball courts, which has been under construction since last May. Shinsegae Square is part of "Myeongdong Square," an outdoor advertising free display zone that colors the area from Myeongdong to Euljiro with video media.
On the 1st at 6 p.m., Jung-gu, Seoul will hold a lighting ceremony for Myeongdong Square. The approximately 4-minute video features the Shinsegae main store transforming into a mysterious Christmas castle, followed by the appearance of a giant ribbon emerging from the castle. Viewers can also see a theme park decorated with dazzling lights in the night sky and a large Christmas tree spread across a Christmas village.
In addition to Christmas videos, Shinsegae Department Store plans to showcase various videos on Shinsegae Square from 6 a.m. to midnight, including K-culture, global brands, and public service advertisements. Next month, visitors will be able to see videos of the cultural heritage "Bronze Dragon," reinterpreted by Shinsegae and the Cultural Heritage Administration, as well as the Netflix original content "Arcane."
Besides Christmas and media artwork, Shinsegae intends to promote global brands and public service advertisements through Shinsegae Square. It also plans to develop the space as a place introducing advanced content along with various attractions, harmonizing with the classic surrounding buildings such as the Bank of Korea.
Park Ju-hyung, CEO of Shinsegae Department Store, said, "We are unveiling a massive signage that marks the beginning of Myeongdong Square, Korea’s version of Times Square," adding, "With a variety of light festivals including Christmas videos, we will lead the globalization of Myeongdong."
Meanwhile, not only the main store but also the Gangnam branch, Centum City branch, and Daegu Shinsegae will feature indoor decorations and Christmas photo zones fitting the year-end atmosphere. A 4.5-meter-tall large Christmas tree will be installed on the first floor of Gangnam branch’s Central City, and the 5th floor of Daegu Shinsegae’s The Stage will be decorated with a Ferris wheel, hot air balloons, and more.
