Topcomedia "Japanese Toptoon Japan Surpasses 3 Million Cumulative Subscribers"

Topcomedia announced on the 30th that the cumulative number of subscribers to its Japanese webtoon platform, ‘Toptoon Japan,’ reached 3.34 million as of the end of September. This represents an approximately 37.4% increase from 2.43 million in April this year. Toptoon Japan has maintained steady growth by attracting nearly 1 million new subscribers in about five months.


Topcomedia is accelerating its efforts to capture the Japanese market by introducing original works tailored to the sensibilities of Japanese readers this year. Three titles?‘Bitang Oncheon,’ ‘Mangsan Wang,’ and ‘Segum Yeochin’?are exclusive serializations planned to suit Japanese readers’ tastes. Topcomedia has differentiated itself by moving away from an operation centered on translated works to localized content.


‘Set Up,’ which began serialization at the end of last month, has rapidly expanded its readership by ranking first among Tuesday serializations and second overall after just 10 episodes. Set Up is a volleyball-themed work, and the company analyzed that its popularity is rapidly rising locally since volleyball is a beloved sport in Japan.


Based on these achievements, Topcomedia plans to launch a large-scale promotion from next month through the year-end holiday season to accelerate new subscriber acquisition and revenue growth. With a global-scale subculture event like ‘Comic Market’ scheduled for December this year, Topcomedia plans to offer various discounts and events.


A Topcomedia representative said, “By presenting exclusive works tailored to Japanese sensibilities, we were able to target the local readership, moving away from the previous operation focused on translation and distribution. This achievement has become an important turning point in strengthening the platform’s competitiveness.”


He added, “In the first half of next year, we plan to introduce at least four new local works through our Japanese studio. Based on a differentiated work supply and production system centered on Korea and Japan and our proprietary platform that has entered the industry’s leading position, we will actively target the global webtoon market.”
