"Could Instill Distorted Views in New Executives"
"For Whom and What Purpose Was This Written?"
Former ADORE CEO Min Hee-jin recently commented on the controversy surrounding the 'HYBE internal report' that included evaluations of appearances. He speculated that the document was created to help executives with limited experience in the K-pop industry better understand it, but also pointed out that it was a text that could instill a wrong perception of the industry as a whole.
On the 29th, former CEO Min appeared on the YouTube channel 'Kim Young-dae's School of Music.' Having had multiple conflicts with HYBE previously, he was dismissed from his position as CEO of ADORE, a label under HYBE.
During the interview, former CEO Min also addressed the HYBE internal document submitted at the recent National Assembly audit. He said he had encountered the document during his tenure as CEO and stated, "I actually rejected that document." Min added, "Later, I even sent a harshly critical email," and bluntly criticized, "What on earth is this for? Who is this for, and what is the purpose? Is this supposed to be entertaining?"
He emphasized, "As this industry (K-pop) grew, people from various backgrounds who did not understand the industry joined the executive team," and said, "Are you going to teach K-pop to those people like this? That was the scariest thing for me." In other words, while the report was written as a kind of guide for executives unfamiliar with K-pop industry trends, the problem is that it risks conveying a distorted view of the industry.
Former CEO Min said, "If you teach something like this in a rote manner, what will happen in the future? These people might be influenced by (wrong perceptions)," and added, "That's why I wrote a critical email about the internal document. If you are confident, then just disclose it outside, can you show it?"
Earlier, on the 24th, HYBE's internal document was submitted as evidence during the National Assembly's Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee audit. The document contained numerous contents that appeared to evaluate the appearances of idol groups belonging to several famous entertainment agencies such as SM, YG, and JYP, sparking controversy.
However, HYBE explained regarding the report, "The monitoring report disclosed in the National Assembly is a document that compiles various reactions and public opinions from fandoms and the industry," and clarified, "It was created by extracting community and SNS responses as they are to share internally with a small number of people for reference on industry trends and issues, and it does not represent HYBE's position."
