"Let's Make Guro a Human Rights City"... Guro-gu, 2024 Human Rights Field Exploration

Operation of the '2024 Human Rights Field Exploration Program' for New Appointees on the 29th-30th

Guro-gu announced that it conducted the ‘2024 Human Rights Field Exploration Program’ over two days on October 29 and 30.

This program, held for 40 newly appointed employees in 2024, was designed to explore human rights sites within the city and discover the hidden value of human rights.

Unlike traditional knowledge-based lectures, the program featured a vivid experiential learning method by visiting human rights sites directly.

This year’s exploration courses included two sections among the human rights exploration courses operated by Seoul City: Democratization (April-gil) and Namsan (Freedom-gil).

‘April-gil’ is themed around democratization and includes ▲the former Gyeongmudae site ▲the 50th Anniversary Monument of the April 19 Revolution ▲the former National Assembly building ▲the former Supreme Court site ▲the former Lee Ki-bung house site. ‘Freedom-gil’ is themed around Namsan and includes ▲the former 6th Bureau of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency ▲the former Jujapa Police Substation site ▲the former 1st Annex of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency ▲the former main building of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency ▲the former 6th Annex of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency ▲Sorit-gil ▲the former 5th Annex of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency.

To increase satisfaction and concentration during the education, the program was conducted in two sessions.

The length of each course ranged from 1 to 4.5 km, taking about two hours, during which participants listened to explanations from guides while touring historical sites.

One participant said, “Because the education was conducted on-site with a strong sense of presence, the educational effect seemed higher,” adding, “It was a valuable opportunity to reflect on the meaning of human rights and remember history.”

A Guro-gu official stated, “We expect to realize ‘human rights administration for residents’ by reflecting the experiences from the field in administration,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to strengthen human rights awareness and capabilities.”
