An exhibition showcasing photonics convergence technologies and products, which are key to future growth industries, was held in Gwangju.

On the 29th, Gwangju City held the opening ceremony of "Photonics Korea 2024" (the 22nd International Photonics Convergence Industry Exhibition) at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center.

As the only specialized photonics convergence industry exhibition in Korea, "Photonics Korea 2024" secures overseas market channels for participating companies through export consultation meetings inviting foreign buyers, and establishes itself as a gateway for future regional growth through export contracts. On the first day of this year's exhibition, the export consultation meeting, which invited over 30 foreign buyers from 8 countries, resulted in export contracts worth 6 million USD.

The exhibition featured new technologies and excellent products in eight major photonics convergence fields including optical communication, optical lighting, optical medical bio, and optical precision. It also included export consultation meetings with foreign buyers, academic conferences on photonics convergence technology, and contests for technology commercialization ideas and product design. In particular, various optical technologies were showcased in fields such as optical medical bio, optical energy, future mobility, and smart lighting.

The opening ceremony was attended by Lee Sang-gap, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Economy of Gwangju City; Park Jae-jung, Director of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; city council members Seo Yong-gyu, Park Pil-soon, and Lim Mi-ran; Yoon Kyung-mo, Chairman of the Korea Photonics Convergence Industry Promotion Association; company representatives; related organizations; and numerous foreign buyers from Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, and other countries.

Lee Sang-gap, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Economy of Gwangju City, said, "The photonics convergence industry is a representative industry that plays a major role in the regional economy," and added, "We will actively support and back efforts to open a bright future for Gwangju."
