Daegu Bullo Market 'Makgeolli Festival' - Come and Enjoy... Makgeolli Bottles Sold at 1,000 Won Each

The 2024 Bullo Ancient Tomb Village ‘Bullo Bullo (不老不老) Makgeolli Festival’ will be held on November 2nd from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. around Bullo Traditional Market in Dong-gu, Daegu.

Now in its third year, this event is part of the Bullo-dong Urban Regeneration New Deal project and will be divided into three zones: Makgeolli tasting and sales zone, experience zone, and food zone.

In the Makgeolli tasting and sales zone, visitors can enjoy a variety of local traditional liquors, including handcrafted makgeolli from Bullo Takju Academy, as well as offerings from Daegu Takju Cooperative, Dalseong Brewery (Dalseong-gun), Misong Brewery (Gyeongsan), Muwonchikju (Uiseong), Iseo Brewery (Cheongdo), and Baeknyeon Brewery (Gimcheon).

The experience zone offers a range of programs suitable for all ages, such as making makgeolli soap, ink rubbing, diffuser air freshener making, herbal vinegar making, zero-waste shampoo bar making, making a back scratcher, dementia prevention experience programs, and popular one-day classes like makgeolli brewing and terrarium making, which received enthusiastic responses at previous festivals.

In the food zone, visitors can enjoy local foods through the collaboration between Bullo Resident Tavern and the village management cooperative booths within the area.

Additionally, with the support of Daegu Takju Cooperative, a ‘Happiness for 1,000 Won’ event will be held at 35 designated stores within Bullo Traditional Market, where one bottle of makgeolli can be enjoyed for 1,000 won. There will also be various programs for family visitors, including Bullo Karaoke, stage performances, and busking.

Yoon Seok-jun, head of Dong-gu Office in Daegu, said, “By hosting a festival utilizing makgeolli, a local specialty resource of Bullo-dong, we aim to create a harmonious space where local residents and merchants can come together. We will spare no support to help Bullo-dong become a nationally renowned makgeolli destination through collaboration with small-scale local breweries.”
