Operated Twice on November 7 and 8... Exploration Course Approximately 2.9km, About 2 Hours on Foot
First-Come, First-Served Recruitment of 30 Residents, Free Participation Fee... District Office Website or In-Person Registration Available
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will operate the "2024 Human Rights Field Exploration Program," allowing residents to directly experience human rights sites in history.
This program was planned to revisit the importance and value of human rights by exploring locations that embody the history of human rights protection in the area, and to spread a healthy culture of human rights respect within the local community.
The exploration will be held twice on November 7 and 8 from 2 PM to 4 PM. The course is approximately 2.9 km long and takes about 2 hours on foot. Participants will experience the historical significance of human rights-related sites by following the "Seoul Human Rights Field Floor Plaques (markers)" installed in the area.
The course consists of three locations: ▲ the "Korean Family Law Counseling Center," founded by the late Dr. Lee Tae-young, Korea's first female lawyer who dedicated her life to advancing women's rights ▲ the "Yeouido Farmers' Protest Site," where demonstrations demanding farmers' survival rights took place ▲ and the "Yeongdeungpo Industrial Mission," which was active in protecting workers' human rights in the late 1960s.
In particular, a human rights expert guide will accompany the exploration to provide engaging explanations about the historical background and the meaning of human rights at each site. The program is free of charge, and a total of 30 participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, with 15 people per session.
Residents wishing to participate can apply through the district office website's "Integrated Reservation" system or register by phone or visit the district office's Audit Department. For more details, please contact the Audit Department of the district office.
Additionally, the district operates various programs to raise residents' awareness of human rights and to promote a culture of human rights respect within the community, including ▲ visiting human rights education ▲ formation and launch of the Human Rights Committee ▲ residents' human rights guardians group ▲ and residents' human rights school.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, "I hope this exploration program will be a meaningful time for residents to experience Yeongdeungpo's human rights history, take pride in the region, and feel the precious value of human rights." He added, "We will continue to do our best to develop various educational programs to create a society where all human rights are respected."
