The Gwangsan-gu Disabled Shooting Team from Gwangju, currently competing in the 44th National Disabled Sports Festival held in Gyeongnam, set an unofficial 'world record.'
According to Gwangsan-gu on the 28th, the team consisting of Park Seung-woo, Lim Joo-hyun, Kim Geun-soo, and Park Dong-an participated in the mixed air rifle prone R4 team event SH2 (athlete division) on the 26th, scoring a total of 1902.2 points to set a world record and win the gold medal.
The previous world record was 1898.3 points, set by the French team at the 2023 Lima Para Shooting Championships. However, since the National Disabled Sports Festival is not a WSPS (World Shooting Para Sport) sanctioned event, the Gwangsan-gu disabled team’s score is considered an unofficial record.
Park Byung-kyu, the district mayor, said, “I am grateful and very proud that the Gwangsan-gu athletes have brought such joyful news to the 420,000 citizens of Gwangsan. As the district mayor and president of the Gwangsan-gu Disabled Sports Association, I will actively support the promotion of disabled sports.”
Meanwhile, Gwangsan-gu sent 92 participants (68 athletes and 24 officials) competing in 22 events to this year’s National Disabled Sports Festival.
