A foreigner who fatally stabbed his ex-wife during an argument in Cheongju was previously fined for assaulting her, it has been reported.
According to Yonhap News and the police on the 28th, Mr. A, an Egyptian national, was fined for injury charges after assaulting Ms. B (in her 30s) before their divorce in 2022, and was subject to temporary domestic violence measures including a restraining order within 100 meters.
Last year, while preparing for divorce and living separately, Mr. A visited Ms. B's home and was reported for stalking. Later, he called a locksmith to forcibly open the door, leading to a report for trespassing as well.
Both cases were closed after Ms. B withdrew her complaints or expressed no desire for punishment at the scene.
The police classified them as a "domestic violence recurrence risk family" and had been monitoring them, but after their divorce at the end of last year, they were removed from the monitoring list at Ms. B's request.
On the morning of the 26th at around 6:53 AM, Mr. A proposed to Ms. B at her apartment in Osong-eup, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, saying, "I booked accommodation; let's go camping with the children," but after being rejected, he stabbed her multiple times during an argument, killing her.
Ms. B, unable to care for her two young children due to work, had requested help from Mr. A a few days before the incident, and they were living together at the time.
Both children were present in the home during the incident but reportedly did not witness the attack. The police arrested Mr. A on charges of murder that day.
