Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced on the 28th that the 'AI Autonomous Manufacturing Leading Project Agreement Ceremony,' hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, was held at the Grand Hyatt Seoul.

AI autonomous manufacturing integrates AI into the manufacturing process to achieve advanced production and autonomy, drawing attention as a means to solve challenges in the manufacturing industry such as demographic changes and productivity decline. In May, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy announced ＜AI Autonomous Manufacturing Strategy 1.0＞ as one of the nation's key strategic projects, accelerating the spread of AI utilization across the manufacturing sector. The Ministry plans to expand the AI Autonomous Manufacturing Leading Projects to 200 by 2027, expecting this to trigger domestic investments exceeding 20 trillion KRW.

In June, the Ministry selected 26 leading projects out of a total of 213 projects submitted during the AI Autonomous Manufacturing Leading Project demand survey. Accordingly, at this agreement ceremony, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Governor of Jeonbuk Province, the Mayor of Changwon Special City, and other key local government heads, as well as companies and institutions promoting the leading projects, signed the AI Autonomous Manufacturing Leading Project agreement.

Among the 26 finally selected leading projects, DN Solutions, located in Seongsan-gu, Changwon Special City, was included. DN Solutions will invest a total of 17.9 billion KRW, including 10 billion KRW in national funds and 2 billion KRW in local funds over four years, to establish a high-end specialized factory based on AI autonomous manufacturing covering approximately 40,000㎡. Additionally, they plan to build intelligent production equipment and autonomous manufacturing software in the future.

AI Autonomous Manufacturing Leading Project Agreement Ceremony.

At the ceremony, Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, presented the ‘Strategy for Establishing a World-Class AI Autonomous Manufacturing Innovation Ecosystem.’ Focusing on the five major sectors of Changwon National Industrial Complex’s core industries?machinery, aerospace, defense, automotive, and future mobility (drones)?the strategy is based on three detailed promotion strategies: ‘Intelligence (AI),’ ‘Human-Centered,’ and ‘Sustainability.’ The main content involves combining foundational technologies and robotics technology to establish an AI autonomous manufacturing dedicated support center.

From 2025, Changwon Special City plans to nurture regional base companies targeting the five major sectors of Changwon’s core industries, and from 2028, it will establish the ‘Changwon AI Autonomous Manufacturing Dedicated Support Center’ to promote the construction of autonomous manufacturing specialized equipment, support for companies and technical difficulties, and professional workforce training in collaboration with the Changwon Industry Promotion Agency and specialized research institutions.

Mayor Hong stated, “To turn the crisis of the Changwon National Industrial Complex, which has reached its growth limits, into an opportunity for innovation, we will establish an AI autonomous manufacturing hub center in line with the Ministry’s strategy. By integrating AI into the manufacturing-centered Changwon National Industrial Complex, we will propel it to become the world’s leading AI autonomous manufacturing industrial complex. With the determination that Changwon will take responsibility for the next 50 years of our nation’s future, we will actively align with the government’s strategies and policies to lead national projects proactively.”
