Many Entertainment Industry Colleagues Attend to Bid Farewell
Jang Dongmin and Jung Junha Personally Carry the Coffin During the Procession
On the 27th, the funeral procession for the late Kim Sumi took place at Hanyang University Hospital funeral hall in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, drawing attention as Jang Dongmin, who had shown a son-like relationship with the deceased during her lifetime, participated in carrying the coffin. Earlier, Kim Sumi was found in cardiac arrest at her home on the 25th and was transported to the hospital, but she passed away at the age of 75. The cause of death was revealed to be hyperglycemic shock. At the funeral hall, many who had close ties with the deceased during her lifetime, led by Shin Hyunjoon, including Yoo Jae-suk, Jo In-sung, Choi Ji-woo, Yum Jung-ah, Yoo Dong-geun, Jeon In-hwa, Hwang Shin-hye, Choi Myung-gil, Lee Yeon-bok, Choi Hyun-seok, Jisook, and Lee Doo-hee, gathered to pay their last respects.

Among those attending the funeral procession were daughter-in-law Seo Hyorim, as well as entertainment industry colleagues Yoon Jung-soo, Jung Joon-ha, and Jang Dongmin, who saw off the deceased’s final journey. In particular, Seo Hyorim expressed her grief with words like "Mom, don’t go," and "Mom, you suffered so much, how could you leave like this," moving those present with her sorrow. Jang Dongmin, who also attended the funeral, appeared deeply saddened throughout the ceremony.
Jang Dongmin, who had maintained a special bond with the deceased, personally took part in carrying the coffin that day. He had appeared with Kim Sumi in various entertainment programs portraying a 'mother-son relationship,' building a strong connection. However, when Jang Dongmin got married in 2021, there was a brief misunderstanding as Kim Sumi was not invited to the wedding. At that time, Kim Sumi said, "I even prepared a wedding gift and cleared my schedule, but I didn’t receive any invitation to the wedding. So I appeared on a variety show and said 'completely out,' and then I kept getting calls as if I was hurt." She later clarified, "It turned out that the wedding was a family-only event without inviting celebrities," and added, "It was meant to be funny, and if I really disliked it, I wouldn’t have said those things," indicating that there was no problem in their relationship.

However, one netizen left a harsh comment on Jang Dongmin’s personal social media account, saying, "Outside of broadcasts, you only have a professional relationship, but you were too hasty," and "It seems Kim Sumi thought of it as more than just a broadcast connection. On the show, she said she wanted to see Dongmin’s kids, but he never showed them while having his second child." In response, other netizens reacted with comments such as "Stop being nosy," "On such a sad and painful day, let’s just pay our respects," and "People who don’t know about their relationship shouldn’t say things like this."
