According to a report by JoongAng Ilbo, on the 27th, a celebrity donation auction event for 'We Are One Sharing Week 2024' was held at Informal Square in Seongsu-dong, Seoul. The venue was filled with auction participants and spectators from early morning. Various items were auctioned off that day, including ▲signed fencing shoes by fencer Oh Sang-wook ▲props from the film 'Pamyo' by director Jang Jae-hyun ▲a zelkova wood turtle by GS Caltex CEO Heo Se-hong ▲a 2008 Beijing Olympics commemorative bat by Hanwha Eagles manager Kim Kyung-moon ▲a celadon moon jar by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo ▲a whale-shaped tie pin by People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon ▲a jumper by Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung ▲music video shooting outfit by singer and actor Cha Eun-woo ▲and stage costumes by singer Jang Min-ho, among others, each finding their new owners.
The highest-priced item at the auction was Lee Chan-won's stage costume. Starting at 50,000 won, the bidding quickly surpassed 1 million and 2 million won, eventually being won by a woman in her 30s, Ms. Kang, who offered 6.1 million won. Ms. Kang said, "I resonated with the purpose of donating all proceeds to low-income children and youth," adding, "I participated in the auction hoping that Lee Chan-won's positive influence through We Are One would spread widely." She continued, "I usually donate about 10% of my income to support the hearing impaired and others," and added, "I plan to participate in this event again next year." The second and third highest bids went to the zelkova wood turtle (CEO Heo Se-hong) and the Beijing Olympics commemorative bat (Manager Kim Kyung-moon), respectively. The total sales amount for We Are One Sharing Week was calculated at 51,679,000 won, including 7,930,000 won from on-site auctions and 4,895,000 won from special sales (excluding art auction amounts).
Meanwhile, 'We Are One' is an event co-hosted by JoongAng Ilbo and JTBC and organized by the nonprofit organizations WeStart and Beautiful Store. It is the largest sharing marketplace in Korea, named after the initials of the WeStart movement, Beautiful Store, and volunteerism. Since 2005, it has been held in various forms both online and offline, with all proceeds from the sale of donated items by celebrities used to help neighbors in need.
