Performing the Role of a Portal to Remember, Record, and Connect Bang Jeong-hwan
The Gyomu Bang Jeong-hwan Library in Guri City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) announced on the 28th that it has launched the ‘Bang Jeong-hwan Archive’ service starting from the 21st.
The ‘Bang Jeong-hwan Archive Service’ provided by the Gyomu Bang Jeong-hwan Library is digital content that collects, stores, and shares digitized electronic records about Sofa Bang Jeong-hwan without being limited to a physical location.
Since 2023, the city has designated Bang Jeong-hwan as the specialized field of the Gyomu Library and has been steadily collecting related materials. After receiving donations or obtaining consent for use of materials from 16 institutions including the Bang Jeong-hwan Research Institute, the city has intensified systematic data collection and ultimately established this archive.
The ‘Bang Jeong-hwan Archive’ is operated under three main categories: ▲Sofa Collection ▲Library Materials ▲Bang Jeong-hwan Books.
First, the 'Sofa Collection' section consists of records, photographs, documents, newspapers, academic materials, and articles from the era when the teacher was active, and it is linked to a full-text viewing service for more detailed use.
The 'Library Materials' section contains materials produced through exhibitions, citizen participation, independent events, and collaborations with institutions such as the Independence Hall, as part of the Bang Jeong-hwan specialized projects promoted by the Gyomu Bang Jeong-hwan Library. In the future, the archive plans to be enriched by producing new records about Bang Jeong-hwan based on the Bang Jeong-hwan collection and materials held by the library.
The 'Bang Jeong-hwan Books' section separately collects books authored or translated by Bang Jeong-hwan, books written about him, works awarded the Bang Jeong-hwan Literary Prize, and books awarded in the Dasaesseu (Rewriting) Bang Jeong-hwan Literary Contest.
Clicking on the cover of a posted book connects to the library’s ‘Book Management Program,’ allowing users to check the location of the book within the Gyomu Bang Jeong-hwan Library, enabling visitors to borrow and use the materials by visiting the library.
The archive is accessible to anyone without restrictions on time or place via the Gyomu Bang Jeong-hwan Library website > Open Yard > Bang Jeong-hwan Archive page.
Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri City said, “I hope this archive will serve as an opportunity to remember and pass on the thoughts and achievements of Bang Jeong-hwan, enhance the identity of the region, and be actively utilized as a local cultural resource.”
