Selected 15 Local Governments Nationwide, Ulsan Only Ulju-gun
Ulju-gun, Ulsan City received the Minister of SMEs and Startups Award at the ‘2024 Traditional Market and Shopping District Revitalization Merit Awards’ hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups annually selects and awards individuals and organizations who have contributed to the revitalization of traditional markets and shopping districts to boost the morale and pride of traditional market merchants and stakeholders.
This year, 15 local governments, including Ulju-gun, were selected for awards, with Ulju-gun being the only recipient from the Ulsan region.
To revitalize traditional markets, Ulju-gun has been steadily promoting support projects such as ▲improvement of aging facilities and modernization projects ▲digital traditional market development ▲creation of distinctive commercial districts ▲operating a monthly shopping day involving social organizations ▲encouraging all employees to use Onnuri gift certificates.
They have also worked to create a safe market environment by installing fire alarm facilities and conducting disaster response safety drills to strengthen disaster response capabilities.
In particular, to deter pigeons that cause damage to market merchants with droppings, a laser pigeon deterrent system was installed in the arcade of Eonyang Alps Market, achieving excellent results.
County Governor Lee Soon-geol said, “This award is the result of the continuous efforts of Ulju-gun and local merchants to revive the declining traditional markets,” adding, “We will strive to create traditional markets that both merchants and customers are satisfied with and enjoy visiting by promoting various support projects for the revitalization of traditional markets.”
