The late Kim Sumi (real name Kim Youngok) suddenly passed away, and her heartfelt relationship with her daughter-in-law Seo Hyorim is once again drawing attention.

Seo Hyorim married the late Kim Sumi's son, Jung Myungho, director of Napalggot F&B, in 2019, and they have a daughter. She previously revealed that even before their marriage, she had a special bond with the late Kim Sumi, talking on the phone for over two hours, showing a relationship beyond just senior and junior in the entertainment industry. The late Kim Sumi also appeared on KBS 1TV's 'Morning Yard' last year and said, "Just as my mother-in-law treated me as a person, I also treat my daughter-in-law as a person," adding, "Since I have a son, I thought, 'When I see my daughter-in-law in the future, I should love her just like my mother-in-law did.' I didn't want to burden her, so I only visited my daughter-in-law's house three times in four years."

She also said, "About two years after my daughter-in-law got married, there was a report that my son (Jung Myungho) was involved in a fraud case," and continued, "Although he was cleared of charges, I gave my house to her because I was worried it might hurt my daughter-in-law's feelings." She added, "If my daughter-in-law's feelings changed and they got divorced, the legal alimony would only be 50 million won, so I told her as a person to live well with the child using that money," and said, "Now they live very happily. I treated my daughter-in-law the way my mother-in-law treated me."

Earlier, the late Kim Sumi was found unconscious at her home on the morning of the 25th and was transported to Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, but she passed away at the age of 75. The bereaved family held the funeral service at 11 a.m. on the 27th at Hanyang University Hospital funeral hall in Seongdong-gu, Seoul. Close acquaintances and fellow entertainers who were close to her during her lifetime attended to pay their last respects. Seo Hyorim, who always treated her mother-in-law like her own mother, cried out, "Mom, don't go."

Meanwhile, the late Kim Sumi debuted as an MBC 3rd generation public recruitment talent in 1970 and rose to stardom playing the role of Ilyong's mother in the drama 'Jeonwon Ilgi.' She actively worked across dramas and films, including 'Dr. Oh's People,' 'Hello, Francesca,' 'Barefoot Ki-bong,' and the 'Glory of the Family' series. She also challenged the kimchi business based on her excellent cooking skills and recently appeared on the tvN variety show 'The Chairman's People.'
