Gangseo Byeolbit Space Science Center Celebrates 1st Anniversary with Celestial Video Exhibition and Expert Lectures

Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) will hold the event "Stories in Starlight - Where Astronomy Meets Humanities" throughout November to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the opening of the Gangseo Starlight Astronomy Museum.


This event includes an astronomical video exhibition and expert lectures. The astronomical video exhibition will be held in the first-floor exhibition hall and the second-floor planetarium. From November 1 to 10, visitors can watch videos of ▲Winter Aurora ▲Dokdo and Dokdo’s Sunrise ▲Cosmos Odyssey ▲Lake Ballard and Uyuni Salt Flats ▲La Palma, Maukenia, and Gemini Night Sky in the exhibition hall. Admission is free except on Mondays, the museum’s closed days.


In the planetarium, videos of the aurora, solar and lunar eclipses, and Cosmos Odyssey will be screened from November 1 to December 1. On weekdays, visitors can attend on-site, and on weekends, reservations can be made through the website. Screening schedules are available on the museum’s website. Admission fees are 2,000 KRW for adults and 1,000 KRW for children.


The expert lectures provide an opportunity for renowned scientists to deliver engaging talks on various space-related topics. The lectures include ▲Professor Byun Yong-ik from Yonsei University’s Department of Astronomy and Space Science presenting "Concerns in the New Space Era" (November 3) ▲Director Lee Jeong-mo of Penguin Various Science Museum discussing "Dinosaur Evolution and Climate Change" (November 10) ▲Director Lee Tae-hyung of Chungju Goguryeo Astronomy Science Museum on "The Universe and the Future of Earth" (November 17) ▲Dr. Lee Joo-hee from the Korea Aerospace Research Institute on "Preparing for Space Travel" (November 24). These lectures will be held every Sunday in November from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.


Those interested must make reservations on the museum’s website. Each session accepts 50 participants on a first-come, first-served basis, and the lectures are open to elementary school students and older. The tuition fee is 2,000 KRW for adults and 1,000 KRW for children.


As a supplementary event, free planetarium viewing will be available on the weekend including the 1st anniversary day (November 2 and 3) through prior reservation. On Sunday, November 10, a hands-on crafting experience event will be held for those who have made prior reservations.
