Harris Bets on Abortion Issue... Winning Female Voters' Hearts
U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned jointly with former First Lady Michelle Obama on the 26th (local time).
At a rally held in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a battleground state, Mrs. Michelle Obama said, "I want to let this beloved country know that if we get this election wrong, we have too much to lose, and I will do everything in my power."
Mrs. Obama said, "Voting for him (Trump) is casting a ballot against our own health and values," and added, "As you vote, ask yourself which side of history you want to be on."
Addressing male voters, Mrs. Obama emphasized, "If we do not achieve the right outcome in this election, your wives, daughters, and mothers?our women?will become innocent victims of your anger," and stressed, "I understand that many people feel anger and disillusionment with the slow pace of change."
Vice President Harris mentioned, "Donald Trump appointed three federal Supreme Court justices who intend to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision (a precedent recognizing women's abortion rights at the federal level)," referring to the 2022 overturning of the Roe v. Wade ruling by the federal Supreme Court, which was reshaped into a 6-3 conservative majority during Trump's administration.
Vice President Harris said, "Our fight is a fight for the future and a fight for the fundamental freedom of women to make decisions about their own bodies."
Vice President Harris criticized that due to former President Trump, one in three American women now live in states where abortion is banned. Although former President Trump pledged before this election to depart from the Republican Party's traditional anti-abortion stance and leave the decision to individual states, he cannot avoid political responsibility.
