Commemorative Event for Residents' Day at Uijeongbu Gyeonggi Peace Square
A Time to Freely Discuss Provincial Administration
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon is taking photos with residents at the 'Residents' Day' event on the 26th. Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon spent time communicating with over 5,000 residents of Gyeonggi Province to commemorate Residents' Day (October 18).
On the 26th, Gyeonggi Province held the "A Wonderful Day in October, Residents' Picnic" at Uijeongbu Gyeonggi Peace Square, featuring various programs such as the Residents' Day awards ceremony, a handshake talk with the governor, and cultural performances.
Gyeonggi Province has been holding an annual Residents' Day event where the governor and residents meet and communicate directly to commemorate the first use of the name "Gyeonggi (京畿)" in 1018 during the reign of King Hyeonjong of Goryeo and the millennium of Gyeonggi in 2018. Last year's 6th Residents' Day event was also well attended by many residents.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon said, "Last year, we held this event in Suwon, but this year I insisted on having it in Uijeongbu because I wanted to hold it in the northern region. Both I and Gyeonggi Province are working hard for the development of the northern area, including the Northern Development Project, public medical centers, and the pet theme park. I believe today's picnic with residents is proof of our love for the northern region. I hope everyone enjoys it to the fullest."
The event featured a resident participation policy ranking quiz show and OX quiz on Gyeonggi Province's empathy policies, which were submitted online by residents in advance, as well as a free Q&A session about provincial administration.
The resident empathy policy rankings selected through online voting were: 1st place The Gyeonggi Pass, 2nd place 4.5-day workweek, 3rd place Climate Action Opportunity Income, 4th place Gyeonggi Province Care SOS Project, 5th place Gyeonggi 360˚ Care, and 6th place 100 Trillion+ Investment Attraction.
In addition, various policies such as the Gyeonggi Youth Ladder, Northern Gyeonggi Grand Remodeling Project, and Climate Satellite were also highlighted as policies residents look forward to.
Governor Kim introduced each of the ranked Gyeonggi Province policies and communicated with the residents.
When a young person preparing for employment in Gyeonggi Province from Changwon, Gyeongnam asked, "I am curious about what youth or employment policies are available for residents," Governor Kim replied, "There are matching programs with companies, new training programs, and many programs for startups and job creation. If you come to Gyeonggi Province, we offer many such opportunities, so please don’t worry and come."
As a pre-event, performances by northern Gyeonggi artists and the Gyeonggi Province Policy Touring Group, consisting of cast members from the comedy show Gag Concert who have been touring cities and counties since August to deliver useful provincial administration information, added significance. Following the opening performance by the Pocheon City Children’s Choir, the handshake talk continued, and in the second part, popular singers performed celebratory shows. The venue also featured a discounted agricultural and livestock products market, food trucks, and an outdoor library, allowing many residents to enjoy an autumn picnic.
Meanwhile, to commemorate the 7th Residents' Day, Gyeonggi Province awarded the "Gyeonggi Resident Commendation" to eight residents who contributed to the development of Gyeonggi Province. The awardees were ▲ Na Su-gyeong, officer at Suwon Probation Office, in the field of law and order establishment ▲ Lee Seung-yeop, representative of the Korea Successor Farmers Association Gyeonggi Province Federation, in rural development ▲ Yoon Ok-yeon, village activist, in social welfare ▲ Shin Young-i, CEO of D.B.
