Ex-Wife's Disclosure of Visits to Entertainment Venues
Controversy Over Leaving Variety Show and Proceeding with Taiwan Performance
FT Island member Choi Min-hwan has become embroiled in controversy after allegations of prostitution surfaced following revelations by his ex-wife, Laboum member Yulhee. Amidst the controversy, it has been reported that Choi Min-hwan traveled to Taiwan to attend an overseas performance.
FT Island, the group to which Choi Min-hwan belongs, is scheduled to perform at the Asia tour "2024 FTISLAND LIVE 'PULSE' IN ASIA" in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on the 26th. FT Island previously performed in Macau and Hong Kong, and after the Kaohsiung show, they are also set to perform in Macau on November 10.
Entertainment media outlet Star News reported on the 25th that Choi Min-hwan headed to Taiwan to perform in Kaohsiung. They predicted that he would appear on stage as planned on the 26th. However, his schedule beyond that remains uncertain. FT Island was also scheduled to headline the "Grand Mint Festival 2024" on November 2. Regarding this, the organizers have stated that they are considering measures.
On the 24th, Yulhee claimed on her video channel that Choi Min-hwan frequented entertainment establishments during their marriage and released a recording allegedly containing conversations about requesting prostitution. The recording, which she claimed was made in July and August 2022, includes Choi Min-hwan speaking on the phone with someone, seemingly looking for hostesses for prostitution. Following the growing backlash, Choi Min-hwan’s activities have come under scrutiny.
As the prostitution allegations surfaced, the police also took action. A post appeared on an online community board stating that a civil complaint requesting a thorough investigation into Choi Min-hwan’s alleged violation of the Prostitution Punishment Act had been filed through the National Police Agency’s civil complaint system. The case has been assigned to the Women and Juvenile Division of the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, and an investigation is expected to begin soon.
In response, Choi Min-hwan announced through his agency FNC Entertainment that he would withdraw from the KBS2 variety show "The Return of Superman," but has not issued any further statements regarding his upcoming performance schedule.
