40s Fugitive Drinks Insecticide Beverage During Transfer, Hospitalized... Handcuffs Not Applied at the Time

No Major Issues with Health

A woman in her 40s who was fined was arrested by the police and, while being escorted, drank a beverage containing insecticide and was transported to a hospital.

According to the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency, the Yongin Dongbu Police Station secured the custody of a woman in her 40s, Ms. A, near Giheung Station on the 24th.

At the time, Ms. A had left a text message related to her personal situation to her ex-lover and then disappeared, prompting a 112 emergency call. However, she had an outstanding fine of 1 million won due to a past offense.

Ms. A expressed her intention to pay the fine, so the police brought her along voluntarily, but since she ultimately did not pay the fine, she was arrested.

While being escorted, Ms. A drank an opened beverage and showed symptoms of vomiting, so she was transported to a hospital, but it was reported that there were no serious issues.

The police, contrary to regulations, neither handcuffed Ms. A nor seated her with others in the back of the patrol car, allowing her to ride alone while being escorted to the police station. At the time of arrest, Ms. A was carrying two bottles of beverage, one of which was opened and found to contain some insecticide.

Ms. A drank this while in the patrol car during transport and showed vomiting symptoms five minutes later, leading to her transfer to the hospital. However, the toxicity of the insecticide ingested was not very strong, and the amount consumed was small, so it was reported that there were no major health problems.

The police discovered circumstances where some officers violated regulations and plan to conduct an internal investigation on those involved.
