Trilateral Cooperation and Coordination on Next Year's Summit Agenda Expected

South Korea, China, and Japan are beginning preparations for the trilateral summit.


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 25th that the trilateral Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) will be held in Tokyo, Japan on the 28th. Jeong Byeong-won, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, Funakoshi Takehiro, Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Sun Weidong, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, will each attend as chief representatives. They plan to review the current status of trilateral cooperation and discuss future plans.

In particular, they are expected to discuss the agenda and schedule of the summit planned to be held in Japan next year in broad terms. The three countries agreed to regularize the summit when they held it in May.


The South Korea-China-Japan trilateral Senior Officials Meeting is a major dialogue channel among the trilateral government consultative bodies, along with the summit and foreign ministers' meetings. Since the first meeting in May 2007, a total of 14 meetings have been held.
