Gyeonggi Hanam City (Mayor Lee Hyun-jae) announced on the 25th that it will operate the '2024 Autumn Wildfire Prevention Headquarters' from November 1 to December 15 through cooperation with related organizations such as the police station, fire station, and nearby local governments.
The Wildfire Prevention Headquarters will conduct emergency duty for constant wildfire prevention monitoring by having 27 employees from the city's Parks and Greenery Department form five teams to work in rotation, and by operating a 'Departmental Vulnerable Area Responsibility System' where 34 departments intensively manage 21 vulnerable areas.
In addition, about 60 temporary workers, wildfire monitoring personnel, and specialized wildfire prevention and suppression teams have been hired to carry out wildfire monitoring and prevention activities centered on 14 monitoring posts and 7 watchtowers located at important forest bases within the region.
Currently, they patrol the entire city frequently, conducting publicity and guidance activities for wildfire prevention, as well as efforts to preemptively block acts such as illegal burning, which are potential risk factors for wildfires.
Mayor Lee Hyun-jae stated, "Hanam City will make every effort to prevent wildfires to protect the lives and property of citizens and preserve beautiful forests," and added, "Since wildfires, which cause tremendous damage when they occur, often start from minor mistakes such as cigarette ignition or garbage burning, we ask that you refrain from carrying flammable materials and from illegal burning of agricultural byproducts and garbage during hiking."
