Sangmin Park Caught Driving Under the Influence for the Third Time
"Determined to Change Due to Repeated Offenses... Reflecting on My Shortcomings"
The prosecution has requested a six-month prison sentence for actor Park Sang-min (54), who was caught driving under the influence for the third time.
On the 25th, at the Suwon District Court Anyang Branch Criminal Division 2 (Judge Jeon Seo-young) during the sentencing hearing for Park's case involving violations of the Road Traffic Act, the prosecution asked the court to sentence him to six months in prison.
Earlier, Park was indicted for driving his Toyota vehicle in a heavily intoxicated state after drinking with acquaintances at a bar in the Gwacheon area of Gyeonggi Province on May 18-19. At that time, his blood alcohol concentration was above the license cancellation threshold (0.08% or higher).
In his final statement, Park admitted to all charges and said, "I have committed the same offense before and have reflected on it. I acknowledge my shortcomings and will make sure this never happens again." He is also accused of fraudulently using a parking permit for disabled parking spaces, which he explained by saying, "I did it out of ignorance."
This is Park's third DUI offense. He was caught driving under the influence in Gangnam, Seoul in 2011 and received a license suspension. Earlier, in 1997, he was caught by police after fleeing the scene of a collision while driving under the influence in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Park's sentencing hearing is scheduled for the 13th of next month.
Park debuted in 1989 with the film 'Janggun-ui Adeul' (The General's Son) and rose to stardom. Since then, he has appeared in numerous films and dramas, receiving awards such as the Blue Dragon Film Award and the Grand Bell Awards for Best New Actor.
