Various Programs Including Half-Price Apples and Popular Singer Performances
Pohang City announced that the 7th Gibuk Apple Festival will be held on the 2nd of next month at the Euncheonji Waterfront Park in Gibuk-myeon.
Now in its 7th year, the Gibuk Apple Festival is a representative autumn festival of Pohang City. It is held annually to promote the excellence of Gibuk apples, produced in the optimal cultivation area for apples, and to revitalize the local economy and foster community harmony.
Gibuk apples are grown in the highland area of the Taebaek mountain range, where there is a large temperature difference between day and night. The flesh is tender and the sugar content is high, resulting in excellent taste. In particular, the yellow apple known as the sweet and sour ‘Shinano Gold’ is very popular for its unique flavor.
This year’s festival will feature various cultural performances such as the Gibuk residents’ singing contest, Aura Nanta, and Golden B-Boy, as well as participatory events including a robot performance, longest apple peel peeling contest, apple weight guessing challenge, and apple roulette.
Additionally, there will be a Gibuk premium apple promotional exhibition hall and the Santorae 6th Industry Experience Center. A direct sales market for agricultural and specialty products and a half-price direct sales market with producers’ direct participation will also be set up.
Furthermore, the festival will include a Gibuk apple auction show, the Challenge! Golden Bell event, and congratulatory performances by famous singer Jeong Su-ra and singers and bands from Gibuk, promising great enjoyment for visitors.
Lee Dong-hoon, Chairman of the Gibuk Apple Festival Committee, said, “Gibuk premium apples are local agricultural products with excellent taste and quality. Through this festival, we want to introduce their appeal to more consumers,” adding, “We hope many people visit to experience and enjoy local agricultural products and culture.”
Jung Kyung-won, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, “We hope visitors enjoy the event filled with various activities and taste the premium Gibuk apples,” and added, “We hope this festival will be an opportunity to promote the excellence of Gibuk apples.”
