A man in his 60s who broke the main entrance door of the National Assembly building with a fire extinguisher in the early morning hours was arrested by the police.
The Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul urgently arrested a man in his 60s, Mr. A, on the 25th on charges of special property damage and trespassing. Mr. A is suspected of breaking the glass door at the main entrance of the National Assembly building, which connects to the Rotunda Hall, at around 5:14 a.m. that day.
At the time, Mr. A attempted to break the glass door and enter the building, but it is understood that a National Assembly security guard reported this to the police. Mr. A fled the scene on a bicycle but was arrested about an hour later, at 6:25 a.m., at the Mulbit Square in Yeouido Hangang Park.
The police believe Mr. A was not under the influence of alcohol and are investigating the specific motive behind the crime.
Meanwhile, a disturbance also occurred at the National Assembly building in February. At that time, a man in his 50s, Mr. B, was arrested by the police on charges of causing a disturbance with a weapon after climbing over the fence of the National Assembly building while intoxicated.
At around 2:20 a.m. that day, Mr. B climbed over the fence of the National Assembly building located in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, and broke the glass windows of vehicles in the parking lot with a weapon he was carrying. He also caused a disturbance by hitting the window of the National Assembly guard post. At that time, Mr. B swung the weapon at riot police officers who tried to restrain him, but no officers were reported injured.
