Province Advances Survey and Basic Plan for Companion Animal Industry
Announces 12 Detailed Strategies under 4 Major Strategic Goals and Discusses Implementation Strategies
Gyeonggi-do announced the results of the research project on the "Survey of the Companion Animal Industry and Establishment of a Basic Plan" on the 24th at the Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute located in Suwon-si. Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that it presented the results of the research project on the "Survey on the Pet Industry Status and Establishment of Basic Plans" at the Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute located in Suwon City on the 24th.
This research project was conducted for about seven months starting in March to carry out a status survey and establish basic plans to revitalize the pet industry in Gyeonggi Province, in accordance with the fully revised "Gyeonggi Province Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of the Pet Industry" enacted last October.
The main contents included research on "Current Status and Basic Statistical Data Collection of Gyeonggi Province's Pet Industry," "Discovery and Proposal of Gyeonggi Province-type Specialized Projects and Promotion Plans," "Technical Support and Export Activation Plans for Promising Companies in the Province," and "Establishment of Basic Policy Directions and Goals for the Pet Industry in the Province (5-year plan)."
According to the research project report, Gyeonggi Province proposed that under the vision of becoming a global leader in the pet industry advancing with innovative technology and sustainable solutions, it is necessary to strengthen competitiveness in the global market and foster a culture where people and pets coexist harmoniously. To realize this, the report suggested four major promotion strategies and twelve core tasks.
The four strategies are "Promotion and Distribution Activation of Gyeonggi Province Products," "Support for New Technology Development," "Strengthening Pet Industry Infrastructure," and "Establishment of a Global Pet Culture." The report pointed out that among the twelve core tasks under these four strategies, four should be designated as Gyeonggi Province-type specialized projects and prioritized for implementation.
Looking at the "Four Major Gyeonggi Province-type Specialized Projects," first, it was proposed that a large-scale Gyeonggi Province-type exhibition themed on pets is necessary to foster the pet industry and the growth of related companies. The plan includes holding a large-scale international expo from 2025 to 2029 with the participation of more than 100 pet-related companies in the province.
Secondly, it also included the need to establish and operate a permanent online and offline B2B exclusive exhibition hall to promote Gyeonggi Province products in connection with this.
Thirdly, for "Support for New Technology Development" to develop excellent products, it explained the need to promote a collaboration contest between Gyeonggi Province specialties and animal products, and to provide development support to concretely realize the products and service ideas discovered through the contest.
Fourthly, to "Establish a Global Pet Culture," the plan includes preparing promotional measures for pet-friendly spaces by supporting consulting and signage for pet-friendly businesses or spaces within the province.
The province plans to establish an implementation plan as a five-year plan starting in 2025 and to promote the core tasks annually.
Following the presentation of the research project results on the day, a policy forum was held with participation from Gyeonggi Province officials, pet industry experts, and academic professors to share the five-year promotion plan for fostering the pet industry in Gyeonggi Province and to intensively discuss policy issues and feasible strategies.
Lee Eun-kyung, head of the Pet Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "We will gradually promote differentiated specialized projects unique to Gyeonggi Province to lead the co-growth of the local economy and the pet industry and enhance competitiveness in the global market."
