BS Industry is accelerating the 'Solar City Data Center Development Project,' the largest of its kind in Korea, in collaboration with Jeollanam-do Province and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).

On the 23rd, BS Industry announced on the 25th that it signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Jeollanam-do Province and KEPCO at the Jeonnam Provincial Office to establish power infrastructure for the Solar City Data Center Park. The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Mankyeom, CEO of BS Industry, Park Changhwan, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Jeonnam Province, and Seo Cheolsu, Vice President of KEPCO's Power System Department.

Through this MOU, the three parties plan to expedite the construction of a 154kV-class substation and transmission lines at the Solar City Enterprise City in Haenam-gun, Jeonnam. To this end, KEPCO will carry out the substation and transmission line construction project, Jeonnam Province will support accelerating administrative procedures such as permits, and BS Industry will prepare the substation site and compensate part of the investment costs if KEPCO incurs losses due to failure to attract tenant companies.

In June, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy conditionally designated this enterprise city as a Special Development Zone for Opportunity Development, based on the installation of the substation. With the construction of the substation through this MOU, the development project is expected to proceed smoothly in the future.

BS Industry is promoting the creation of the largest data center park in Korea (1GW) in the Solar City Enterprise City together with Jeonnam Province and Haenam-gun. The project involves building up to 25 data centers with a capacity of 40MW each on a 1.65 million ㎡ site, with an investment of 10 trillion KRW.

BS Industry will also establish a large-scale eco-friendly renewable energy power complex including solar and wind power at this site. The generated renewable energy will be supplied to nearby data centers and industrial belts to achieve carbon neutrality.

A BS Industry official said, "With the signing of the power infrastructure construction agreement, the construction of data centers and the attraction of tenant companies will be promoted at an accelerated pace."
