Debuted in 1971... Active in Various Movies and Variety Shows
Kim Soo-mi, an actress who gained great love for her role as 'Ilyong Eomni' in the longest-running domestic TV drama 'Jeonwon Ilgi,' has passed away at the age of 75.
According to the Seocho Police Station in Seoul on the 25th, Kim Soo-mi suffered cardiac arrest at her home and was transported to Seoul St. Mary's Hospital in Seocho-gu around 8 a.m. that day but was ultimately pronounced dead.
It was reported that Kim Soo-mi was found unconscious by her son at her home in Bangbae-dong, Seocho-gu, that morning. Her son immediately called 119, and Kim Soo-mi was taken to the emergency room at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital. Later, emergency room staff confirmed her death and reported it to the police.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of her death.
Born in 1949, Kim Soo-mi debuted in the entertainment industry through MBC's 3rd public recruitment talent program in 1970. She later proved her acting skills and rose to stardom by appearing in dramas such as 'Jeonwon Ilgi,' 'Oh Baksa-ne Saramdeul,' and 'Annyeong, Francesca,' as well as films like 'The Great Legacy,' 'Barefoot Ki-bong,' and the 'Glory of the Family' series.
Not only in acting but also in numerous variety shows such as 'Look at Me,' 'Soo-mi's Side Dishes,' 'Are You Eating Well?' and 'The Chairman's People,' she delivered great laughter to the public with her bold wit and entertainment skills.
In 2019, she made headlines by welcoming Seo Hyo-rim, a close junior in the entertainment industry, as her daughter-in-law. Seo Hyo-rim and Kim Soo-mi's son, Jung Myung-ho, also showcased their married life through broadcasts after their wedding.
Kim Soo-mi, who had not stopped her activities until recently, was hospitalized at Hanyang University Hospital in Seongdong-gu in May this year due to accumulated fatigue and temporarily suspended her activities. At that time, it was reported that Kim Soo-mi was diagnosed with the need for rest for a while due to overlapping performances and broadcasting activities causing fatigue accumulation.
Later, in September, Kim Soo-mi appeared on a home shopping channel and was caught up in rumors of 'health issues' due to her swollen face and slurred speech. At that time, her son Jung Myung-ho told a media outlet, "She stayed up all night before the broadcast, and since it was just before Chuseok, the filming was rushed. She was in poor condition, so she appeared that way," drawing a line under any health concerns.
Kim Soo-mi's funeral will be held at Hanyang University Hospital.
