Harris Standing Side by Side with Obama: "I Come from the Middle Class... 'Yes, We Can'"

U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris stated on the 24th (local time) during her first joint campaign rally with former President Barack Obama, "I come from the middle class and will never forget my roots." Former President Obama, who came out to support her, also emphasized the distinction from former President Donald Trump, a 'silver spoon' billionaire, saying, "Kamala was not born into privilege."

At the rally held in the southern battleground state of Georgia, Vice President Harris urged voting by saying, "One person (Trump) focuses on the past and himself. The other person (Harris) focuses on the future and you." Emphasizing her middle-class background, Harris promised to rebuild centered on the middle class by "lowering prices on everything from prescriptions to groceries to housing." She also criticized former President Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, saying, "As before (during his administration), he will provide massive tax cuts to billionaires and big corporations."

On the day, Vice President Harris said, "This election is a fight for the future, a fight for freedom, and a fight for the fundamental freedom of women to make decisions about their own bodies without government interference," promising, "If Congress passes a bill to restore women's reproductive rights, I will proudly sign it into law as President of the United States." She also emphasized, "Trump has become more chaotic and unstable," and "Anyone who claims to destroy the U.S. Constitution must never become President of the United States again."

Standing on stage with former President Obama, Vice President Harris said, "As a former president (Obama) said, we can do it (Yes, we can)," adding, "We will win." This is a reference to the past Obama campaign slogan (Change. Yes, we can) and the well-known final speech phrase "Yes, we can." At the time, the phrase was highly praised as symbolizing the courage, hope, and positive outlook for the future championed by former President Obama.

Former President Obama, who appeared at the first joint campaign rally, also launched an offensive against former President Trump, saying, "America does not need a king who runs around punishing enemies or someone who wants to be a dictator." Obama, considered the most star-powered politician in the Democratic Party, has recently appeared at several rallies, but this was his first time attending a joint rally with Vice President Harris. Amid evaluations that Harris's approval ratings have been sluggish recently, especially among Black male voters, this move is interpreted as an effort to consolidate the so-called base voters.

In particular, former President Obama raised his voice, saying, "Kamala was not born into privilege. She grew up in the middle class. She worked at McDonald's while attending college," pointing out that "She did not pretend to work while closing the McDonald's doors." This was a jab at former President Trump, who recently made headlines for working as a one-day part-time worker at McDonald's, with reports revealing that the store was actually closed and it was a kind of event. Obama urged voting by saying, "She will not focus on her own problems, pride, or money," but "will focus on you."

Additionally, 'rock legend' Bruce Springsteen also attended the rally and performed. He stated, "I want a president who respects the Constitution," and claimed, "Donald Trump ran to become a tyrant of America. He does not understand this country."
