Development of Vertical Takeoff and Landing Vertiport Construction Technology
"Building Safe Infrastructure with Advanced Steel Technology"

POSCO is launching a collaborative system for research and development of vertical take-off and landing pad (vertiport) technology for urban air mobility (UAM), a future transportation mode.

On the 24th, POSCO announced that it signed a strategic cooperation agreement for new technology research and development with Goyang Special City, Korean Air, LIG Nex1, and Korea Aerospace University at the opening ceremony of the 'Goyang Drone and Urban Air Mobility Expo' held at KINTEX in Goyang.

Through this agreement, the parties agreed to mutually cooperate on ▲utilizing testbeds linked to UAM new technology development ▲expanding and revitalizing the UAM industry in Goyang Special City ▲providing advisory support for designating and operating UAM demonstration and pilot operation zones.

In this collaboration, POSCO will be responsible for developing structural technology necessary for constructing UAM vertiports. A vertiport is a facility where UAM aircraft take off and land vertically, and developing vertiports with safety and economic feasibility is essential for UAM commercialization. POSCO plans to develop vertiports suitable for installation in urban areas and conduct demonstration research using Goyang City's testbed.

Song Yeon-gyun, head of POSCO Steel Solutions Research Institute, said, "Through continuous research, development, and cooperation, we will do our best to develop a safe and economical vertiport model and contribute to the advancement of the UAM industry."
