Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that the taxpayer-tailored service, the ‘Wednesday Night Tax Consultation Office,’ has been resolving residents' tax concerns for four years.

Paying taxes is an obligation for all citizens, but ‘tax matters’ remain a difficult area for many people. Not only are the laws and procedures complex, but individual financial situations vary, requiring personalized tax consultations. However, due to busy daily lives and concerns about costs, office workers often hesitate to seek tax consultations.

To address this issue, the district has been operating the ‘Night Tax Consultation Office’ since 2021. Customized consultations are provided free of charge through the pro bono work of tax accountants.

The consultations operate by appointment and can be requested through the Nowon-gu Office website. They are held at the Tax Collection Division Civil Service Office on the 2nd floor of the district office, where residents can receive about 20 minutes of free consultation from professional tax accountants and tax officials.

In particular, the service runs every Wednesday evening from 6 PM to 8 PM, making it convenient for office workers to participate without burden.

The consultation covers national taxes (such as capital gains tax, inheritance tax) and local taxes (such as acquisition tax, property tax). Residents can receive consultations on both national and local taxes in one place, eliminating the inconvenience of having to visit both the tax office and the district office, enabling a one-stop solution.

From January last year to the third week of October this year, a total of 729 consultations have been conducted. The consultation topics were mainly capital gains tax (44%), gift tax (27%), and inheritance tax (12%). Residents who received consultations expressed high satisfaction with the professionalism and convenience of the service.

Resident A, who had a consultation last week, said, “While watching the ‘Dancing Nowon’ festival, I was guided to the Wednesday Night Tax Consultation Office through the ‘Visiting On-site Tax Consultation Office,’” and expressed gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the district office, I was able to resolve my concerns.”

Another user, B, said, “I had been hesitant to seek tax consultation due to cost concerns about my usual tax issues,” and added, “The fact that it is ‘free’ and available ‘after work’ gave me psychological comfort, and I am thankful to Nowon-gu Office.”

Nowon-gu is making various efforts for taxpayer convenience. The district operates the ‘Visiting On-site Tax Consultation Office’ to allow residents to receive in-depth tax consultations outdoors. On-site consultations are held at major district festivals, providing high accessibility and convenience to residents while also promoting the Wednesday Night Tax Consultation Office.

District Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “The popularity of the night tax consultation lies in not focusing solely on collection but carefully addressing the tax difficulties residents face,” and added, “We will continue to strive for easy and convenient tax administration that residents can feel.”
