'Cheonggyesan and Seocho Wonteo Gol Madang to Host "Cheonggyero Festival" on the 26th'

Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will hold the ‘Cheonggyeroa Festival,’ a community and commercial district event centered around Cheonggyesan, one of Seoul’s representative mountains, on the 26th.

Cheonggyesan is a popular hiking course near Cheonggyesan Entrance Station on the subway, attracting millions of visitors annually from across the metropolitan area. This event is designed to offer various enjoyable experiences for residents in the nearby commercial district as well as hikers visiting Cheonggyesan in autumn.

Jointly organized by Seocho-gu and the Cheonggyesan Commercial District Prosperity Association, the event will take place in various locations including Exit 2 of Cheonggyesan Station, Seocho Wonteo Gol Madang, and the Cheonggyesan hiking trails. The main program, ‘Cheongrini (Cheonggyesan + rini, meaning beginner) Trekking,’ is prepared so that people of all ages and genders can enjoy Cheonggyesan. The 150 participants who registered in advance will walk a 2.5 km section from the Wonteo Gol entrance to Maebong Peak.

At 582.5 meters, the summit of Maebong Peak on Cheonggyesan may be a bit challenging for beginners, but the district plans to encourage completion by inviting mountain expert Kim Min-cheol, who appeared on the popular program ‘Physical 100,’ to join the trekking. Fun elements such as taking BI certification photos of the commercial district and a stamp tour will also be included.

Participants who register in advance for the Cheongrini Trekking and complete the course will receive generous souvenirs such as a summit stone-shaped keyring and a Cheonggyeroa sports towel. Additionally, those who collect stamps at all three trekking points will be given a 10,000 KRW discount coupon for the commercial district. The discount coupons can be obtained at the commercial district promotion booth at the entrance of Cheongnyong Village and can be used at about 40 locations including restaurants and cafes within the Cheonggyesan commercial district.

At Seocho Wonteo Gol Madang, the trekking destination, various side events will be held, including the ‘Cheonggyeroa Flea Market’ selling food and goods from the commercial district, one-day classes by merchants, busking performances, and a lounge rest area for hikers descending the mountain.

The new brand representing the Cheonggyesan commercial district, ‘Cheonggyeroa,’ incorporates the name Cheonggyesan with keywords like ‘relax’ and ‘come here,’ conveying the message to come to Cheonggyesan and fully enjoy relaxation.

The Commercial District Prosperity Association, which has been leading the Cheonggyesan Autumn Foliage Festival since 2015, welcomed the new commercial district brand and festival, participating from the planning stage by proposing the ‘Cheongrini Trekking.’ They will also directly operate the flea market and one-day classes on the day of the event to showcase the district’s flavors and charms.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “I expect the Cheonggyesan Autumn Foliage Festival, a representative local festival, to be revitalized as the Cheonggyeroa Festival, bringing vitality to the area. I hope families, friends, and colleagues will share special enjoyment in Cheonggyeroa, where the autumn foliage is beautiful, and that it will also be an opportunity for merchants to increase their sales.”
