'Korea Business Expo Vienna' Promotes Global Market Expansion
Seeking to Strengthen Exchange and Cooperation with Basel, the Global Bioindustry Hub
Building MICE Industry Partnerships in Geneva, the Headquarters of International Organizations in Switzerland
Pohang City, led by Mayor Lee Kang-deok, will embark on a business trip to Western Europe for eight days from the 27th of this month to the 3rd of next month to pioneer global markets for local industries, integrate future core new industries into city administration, and expand networks.
During this visit, the delegation will participate in the "KOREA BUSINESS EXPO VIENNA" (formerly the World Korean Business Convention) held in Vienna, Austria, to promote Pohang's future growth industries.
At the event held from the 29th to the 30th, the delegation will attend with 10 outstanding local companies to support the overseas market entry of regional small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and will intensify administrative support to help Pohang companies continuously challenge global market development.
Following this, the delegation will visit Basel and Geneva in Switzerland to explore development plans linked to creating an innovative ecosystem for the bio and MICE industries and corporate growth, and to establish exchange and cooperation systems through strengthened networks.
The delegation will discuss cooperative projects with Basel City and Basel-Landschaft Canton, the centers of the global bio industry, and will concretize follow-up projects related to the memorandum of understanding signed last year with the University of Basel.
Additionally, Mayor Lee will visit the Basel-Landschaft Canton administration office to share key policies for fostering the bio industry and discuss administrative exchanges to support the overseas expansion of Pohang companies in the future.
Moreover, the delegation will participate in the "11th Korea-Switzerland Life Science Symposium" held during the visit, where they will meet the chairman of the Novartis Foundation, a world-leading pharmaceutical company headquartered in Basel, to build new networks aimed at becoming a central bio-cluster.
Furthermore, the delegation will visit Geneva, Switzerland, a global cooperation hub hosting major international organizations, to seek strategic partnerships focused on the MICE industry and expand international networks for Pohang as a global MICE hub.
They will visit the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Geneva office to explore cooperative relationships and the World Economic Forum (WEF) headquarters to benchmark the know-how of hosting and operating international conferences such as the Davos Forum, while promoting Pohang's capabilities in attracting international conferences.
In particular, they will introduce the recently commenced Pohang International Exhibition & Convention Center (POEX), actively highlighting Pohang's strengths as a venue for hosting international conferences and seek cooperation plans to hold WEF-related events in Pohang.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok stated, "This visit will be an opportunity for Pohang, which is strengthening its global city competitiveness through new growth and future innovation industries, to establish new networks with European cities. By benchmarking advanced cases of new growth industries, we will enhance the competitiveness of our key projects and drive sustainable development of Pohang through the discovery of new core industries."
