Paju-si Conducts Disaster Prevention Drill for Public Wastewater Treatment Facility 'Preparedness for Water Pollution Accidents'

Training Simulating Oil Spill in Reservoir Due to Equipment Failure
Expectations to Enhance Accident Response System and Staff Competence

Paju-si Conducts Disaster Prevention Drill for Public Wastewater Treatment Facility 'Preparedness for Water Pollution Accidents' Paju City conducted a disaster prevention drill on June 22 at the Paju LCD public wastewater treatment facility to prepare for water pollution accidents.

On the 22nd, Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 24th that it conducted a disaster prevention drill at the Paju LCD public wastewater treatment facility to prepare for water pollution accidents.

The city has been conducting annual disaster prevention drills to check the accident response system and enhance work capabilities, as prompt initial response is crucial in the event of water pollution accidents such as oil spills.

This drill was conducted assuming a situation where oil leaked into the retention basin due to equipment malfunction within the public wastewater treatment facility, with about 40 participants including the Environmental Guidance Division and employees of the public wastewater treatment facility operator.

Participants practiced various response procedures according to the water pollution accident response guidelines, including ▲rapid on-site situation transmission and reporting immediately after the accident ▲stopping the oil leakage equipment and blocking inflow into the water system ▲installing oil barriers and disaster prevention ▲investigating the spread of contamination and collecting samples.

Problems identified at each practice stage were evaluated in real time to enhance the effectiveness of the drill.

Jo Yoon-ok, head of the Environmental Guidance Division, said, “Through this drill, we were able to further strengthen our response capabilities to water pollution accidents. We will continue to do our best to ensure prompt response in the event of actual water pollution accidents through regular drills and education.”
