The Other Party: "Including Repair Costs, Damage Amounts to 10 Million Won"
A Busan sanitation worker was caught by the police for shooting 'steel balls' at a parked vehicle without any reason.
According to the police on the 23rd, the Yeongdo Police Station in Busan sent a man in his 50s, identified as A, to prosecution without detention on charges of property damage. A is accused of shooting steel balls at parked vehicles on a street in Yeongdo-gu in April and August, causing damage. The damaged vehicles were parked properly in designated parking zones.
The police arrested A based on black box footage provided by the vehicle owner, victim statements, and nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) records. The investigation revealed that A was a sanitation worker affiliated with a district office in Busan. After evidence was uncovered through investigations by the police and the National Forensic Service, A reportedly confessed to the crime belatedly.
He told the police, "I shot (the steel balls) anywhere to relieve stress, and it just so happened that the balls hit that car multiple times," indicating that there was no intent to cause damage.
Meanwhile, B, who is the child of the victim in the case, reported the incident to JTBC's 'Incident Commander.' B said, "The financial damage is significant, from installing the black box to repair costs," adding, "The expenses incurred so far amount to 3 million won, and including repair costs, it is nearly 10 million won." B also stated, "My mother, the car owner, and the perpetrator A did not know each other at all," and "After reporting to the police, A glared at my mother whenever they met, so my mother moved to another place."
B expressed concern, saying, "I contacted the district office, and although the man's workplace was changed, I worry that the new workplace overlaps with where my mother moved, so they might run into each other again."
Meanwhile, the district office to which A belongs is reportedly planning to initiate disciplinary procedures against A based on the police investigation results.
