Providing Remote Classes and Performances Linked with Public Libraries

Gwangju Nam-gu Launches 'Smart Jiyok Adong Center' in Full Scale

Nam-gu, Gwangju City announced on the 23rd that it will actively promote the Smart Community Child Center construction project to diversify care education for socially vulnerable groups and minimize learning gaps through non-face-to-face education. Interactive remote video classes will be conducted in connection with public libraries in the district, and the provision of cultural and performance content will also be expanded.

This project, which will begin this month, was selected through the Ministry of Science and ICT’s “2024 Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project” competition. The district plans to invest about 700 million KRW to establish a video education system equipped with video education devices, learning practice auxiliary devices, and TVs at 21 community child centers in the district.

In addition, studios will be created by utilizing the internal spaces of Pureungil Library, Youth Library, and Hyocheon Eoullim Library. This is to provide various content linked with the public libraries in the district. Once the video education system is established, children at the community child centers will be able to remotely watch video classes operated by public libraries and other community child centers on TV. In particular, they can use online learning materials from public library programs as offline learning resources, and children who have difficulty understanding the class content can receive remote individual learning guidance using learning practice auxiliary devices.

The district plans to pilot the Smart Community Child Center system for one year and then expand the provision of various content, including culture, performances, and various crafting programs.

A Nam-gu official said, “Once the smart infrastructure is established, care education services can be provided at low cost, and the quality of services will be greatly improved through program diversification. It will also greatly help to bridge the digital and learning gaps by improving accessibility to online and offline learning and enhancing learning abilities.”
