Child Who Sent Apology Letter for Noise Between Floors
"Sorry for Being Noisy"
Grandmother Who Sent Reply Letter
"I Didn't Hear the Running Sound"
A story has been shared about a child living in an apartment who left a letter apologizing to the elderly couple living downstairs for the noise between floors, only to receive a warm and encouraging reply in return.
On the 21st, a photo of letters exchanged between a child living on the 19th floor of an apartment and the neighbors on the 18th floor was posted on an online community.
The child on the 19th floor attached an envelope to the 18th floor’s front door with the words, "To the grandmother and grandfather on the 18th floor. Knock knock, a letter has arrived." The letter read, "Hello. I am OO living on the 19th floor. Sorry for running. Sorry for being noisy. Stay healthy." It is said that the child wrote the letter personally to the elderly couple on the 18th floor after learning about noise between floors at kindergarten.
The grandmother on the 18th floor who received the letter also sent a reply. In her letter, she wrote, "Hello ○○, this is the grandmother on the 18th floor. I was surprised to receive your letter," and added, "Grandma didn’t hear you running noisily." She continued, "My son and daughter are just like you, ○○. That’s why your letter was even more welcome," and said, "Grandma will always pray for you to grow up healthy and strong." Finally, she added, "This is a secret from your mom and dad. You can run and play as much as you want. I love you."
A, who identified themselves as the parent of the child who wrote the letter, commented, "We have three children at home," and said, "We installed mats to reduce noise and usually remind the kids to be careful, but knowing there might still be noise, we apologize and promise to be more cautious when we meet the neighbors downstairs."
A also said, "We teach the children to greet and apologize to the grandmother and grandfather when they see them," and added, "Every time, the elders smile and warmly say, ‘It’s okay, don’t discourage the kids or scold them.’"
A explained, "Since the child is still not good at writing and made many mistakes, I sat down with them calmly to rewrite the letter before delivering it," and clarified, "This was not forced on the child nor was it meant to subtly ask the downstairs neighbors to overlook the noise."
Netizens who saw the story responded with various comments such as, "It still feels like a livable world," "The grandmother is so wonderful," "Good people make good neighbors," "They are good neighbors to each other," "Love grows when we make small compromises," and "When someone apologizes first, anger eases, but why does our upstairs neighbor run around all day like that?"
